Our school is a catholic, private and State assisted centre. Our design is inspired by the Catholic Church orientations and Don Bosco´s educational system. However, it is respectful to other educational options. Our school cannot be understood without Don Bosco, the Salesian Congregation founder. He was a devout priest and committed educator, as he was really aware of young people difficulties and made lots of efforts to develop a new educational system which intended to focus on needy people, in order to help them to learn and to work to integrate into society. Everyone in our school loves him and the main street in Los Dolores is called “Avenida San Juan Bosco” (Saint Juan Bosco Avenue), so he is very important in Los Dolores as well.
Salesian work is a peaceful example of tolerance and integration. We have got lots of different students, from different countries, cultures and religions who attend lessons and grow up in our school since they were children. Our way of working always tries to integrate every student in a common project where all of them are different but, all of them have the same rights and obligations. So, multicultural and intercultural education is one of our main premises. On the other hand, Don Bosco´s work is always our reference, which means that Don Bosco´s attitude toward education is our essential guide.
With regard to our educational offer, we work with pre-school, primary, secondary and VET students (aged 3 to 21). We offer two stages of Secondary Education: “Educación Secundaria Obligatoria, ESO” (Compulsory Secondary Education), and “Bachillerato” (Baccalaureate, or A level, 2 lines). Our Vocational training Education, offers the following specialties in Middle Grade level: Electromechanical Vehicles, Welding and Boiler, Telecommunication Facilities, Electrical Installations and Administrative Management. Additionally, the following Higher Grade Level: Telecommunication System and Computer Systems, Industrial Automation and Robotics. The center also offers Initial Vocational Training (Basic Vocational Training) in Auxiliary Operations in Electrotechnical and Communication facilities, Auxiliary Services in IT, Auxiliary Operations in Welding, structural Steelwork and Technoplastics (2 lines) and Auxiliary Operations in Vehicle Maintenance. In the evenings some courses in Continuing and Vocational Training are taught, managed by the Department of Training and Employment.
In total our school has about 1600 pupils whose age varies from 3 to 21. The teaching staff consists of 125 persons, who are profession teachers and general subjects’ teachers.
All this offer is possible due to the extensive facilities that the center owns, such as classrooms, workshops, theatre, conference room, sport fields (we have a football and basketball school), gymnasiums, laboratories, library, canteen and wide gardens.
Our Centre participates in a bilingual program (in English) since the 2012-2013 course. This program is called BEDA (Bilingual English Development & Assessment). It is a flexible program which efficiently helps to improve English learning, managed by Cambridge English Language Assessment.
Besides, we have implemented for 12 years by now a Quality Management System based on Regulation UNE-EN ISO 9001:2000, with Register Number ES-0106/2004. It comprises all educational stages of the educational system imparted in the Centre, including Professional Training for Employment.
